What I Would Do With $500k

On May 25th, Washington Redskins superstar Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson missed a voluntary practice. By failing to attend, Jackson forfeited a $500,000 workout bonus. If I were being paid $500,000 to simply show up for a workout, I'd be opening up the training facility with the janitors at 5am, and helping them lockup later that night.

Hearing about all of this got me thinking of what I would do with the money that Jackson could not be bothered to collect. So here is how I would use $500,000 if I were theoretically presented it at this very moment.

Savings
  1. Put $75,000 in a 401k retirement account
  2. Put $50,000 in a college savings account for my future children
  3. Donate $25,000 to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) that I was in for three months after I was born because without them, I would not be alive to collect this insane amount of money.
So after $150,000 was put away in the bank and donated , I would begin my journey of buying virtually everything I've always wanted with $350,000.

Spending
  1. My first purchase would be season tickets for the Washington Nationals for the next 40 years (Roughly $129,000) in hopes of seeing a world series win.
  2. My next purchase would be a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S ($129,000)
  3. The remaining $92,000 would be split into three categories.
    1. Clothing- Custom tailored suits, lots of preppy clothing, and nice shoes.
    2. Food- I'd purchase as many Chic-Fil-A nuggets as I could possibly eat, as well as some medium-rare steaks from the Palm.
    3. Stock Market- I would try to earn back some of the money I had just spent by investing in a multitude of different companies in order to create a diverse and aggressive portfolio that could turn roughly $30,000 into a small fortune in 15 years making me the wealthiest man in America under the age of 40 in the year 2031.
Athletes these days make enormous amounts of money and it infuriates me that Jackson just blow off $500,000 like it's nothing (well to him it actually is nothing). I just wish they would realize how lucky they are to be making that much money for playing a game that many of us wish we could play at that level.
